Ruhan du Toit, best-known for his jaw dropping rendition of the popular Sound of Silence hit, definitely needs no introduction in music circles. His unique four octave vocal range and natural talent behind the guitar and various other musical instruments, have not only opened doors for him in the past, but have also cemented his place in the hearts and ears of South African and International music lovers.
The musician who grew up in Port-Elizabeth and now lives in Pretoria, has been working in the entertainment industry since 1993 and was able to sing before he could walk or talk. He released his first solo album, Die Hemel Is (1994), at the age of ten and that was only the beginning of this gifted musician’s musical journey.
Since then, he has performed about 150 shows per year, starred in various musicals and plays and released three solo albums, Mensekind (1995), I believe (1997) and Sal ek jou kom haal (2008), and two duet albums, Sound of Silence (2000) and Langpad (2006), with his brother, Jeanre?. Ruhan and Jeanre? also made the top 20 of Zing in 2004.
In 2012, he became the lead singer of the acclaimed musical duo, Touch of Class, in 2012 and since then they have released thirteen successful albums.
The music video of his rendition of The Sound of Silence, for which he has received numerous standing ovations, achieved great success online. Since its release in June 2016, it has been viewed by more than five million people on YouTube.
To celebrate twenty-six years in the music industry, he has decided to resume his solo concerts in 2019. Although he will still be performing with Touch of Class, the artist found that it was time for a new and exciting chapter in his career. “It is very nice to share the stage with a group member, but it also limits how much you can give of yourself without seeming selfish. Ruhan has always had the ability to read and please any crowd with over a variety of 500 songs. His shows will have something for everyone, ranging from massive musical productions to vulnerable solo acoustic sessions. He will also have the opportunity to share some original songs with his audience.”
A solo album is planned for October 2019 and he is very excited about the opportunity to show fans what he can do on his own. Ruhan has also been working very closely with Coleske Artists for the past three years and can be expected on stage at two of South Africa’s most prestigious music events, Afrikaans is Groot and Classics is Groot.
